Family/Intergenerational Formation

  • Advent Family Festival: church in Vermont does an annual Advent Family Fun Night. Connie Saeger Proctor is the organizer and this is what she shared about the event: there are 5 stations. Families make an Advent Wreath then go to a station to do a craft and receive a candle for the wreath. They have something to feed birds. This year it is a soft pretzel made by two of our children's groups. At the station you add peanut butter and bird seed and a ribbon to hang it outside. Other stations this year are the face of each child on a star. Angel cookie decorating. Other years we bound toilet paper rolls and made binoculars and bird houses. They have an appearance from St. Nicholas and they hand out Family Advent devotionals and Advent calendars.

  • Zoocharist: The Zoocharist service at Trinity, Iowa City is different than the regular church services, but in a good way. The service is about twenty minutes shorter than usual, but there was more interaction then the regular services. A storyteller tells  a children’s gospel story with the children gathered around at the front of the altar, and then everyone comes up to the altar and stands in a circle to pass the bread and the cup around. If you would like more information on Zoocharist please contact Nora Boerner.

  • Dwelling in the Word: a missional practice of Bible Study that can be used with children through adults.
